Samsung will not release any Note phones this year due to lack of processors

There were rumors circulating that Samsung will not release phones Galaxy Note This year, but the expected reason has always been to turn all the attention towards foldable phones. Now, a Samsung executive has said that the Galaxy Note series may not see any new phones in 2021 due to the ongoing shortage of chips and chips.

Bloomberg reported that Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung Mobile, told an annual shareholder meeting that there was a "serious imbalance" in supply and demand for semiconductors, a critical component of all electronics including smartphones and Samsung's internal chips. The effects of this deficiency are not new. Automakers were the first to be widely affected and other industries increasingly followed suit.

Just last week, it was reported that Qualcomm was also struggling to meet the demand for its Snapdragon chips as a result of this shortage, with Samsung affected by the issue.

As a result, Koh said that Samsung may choose not to release the Galaxy Note smartphone during the second half of 2021 and explained:

The Galaxy Note series of phones are put on our priority list every year. Revealing two flagship phones could be a burden in a year's time, so any Note phone could be difficult to release in the second half of this year. The release timing of the Note series can be changed but we are seeking to delay the release until next year.

Samsung CEO

Not launching Galaxy Note phones this year may be a wise decision if the processor shortage continues as loyal Note users wait for the new generation, while those who really need a new device will get a good deal with Galaxy S21 Ultra This phone now supports the S Pen.

It's also interesting to see that Koh specifically mentions the launch of the Galaxy Note next year, which means that previous reports of Samsung halting its efforts in the series may be wrong.

At the moment, it is not clear if this will also affect other Samsung releases planned for 2021. We already know that the company's very popular Galaxy A series is set to get two new phones which are A52 and A72 This week, they are not likely to be affected at least in the short term.

Samsung is also expected to debut new foldable devices in the second half of 2021 and one of them is Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Notably, both will come with flagship processors. However, despite the low sales of the Fold and Flip series, Samsung will continue to work with these phones and release new generations of them soon.
