Our Rating

The overall rating is based on review by our experts

8
  • Phone Rate 8 / 10

The Samsung Galaxy A52 is among the latest and best phones in the Galaxy A series of phones in the mid-range, and Samsung has made a clear effort to make this phone among the best so far at an affordable price. The A52 doesn't come at the lowest price for a Samsung phone ever, but it's definitely much cheaper than the flagship phones like the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Ultra At the same time, it offers a very decent user experience and comes with a lot of features.

The Galaxy A52 is definitely not the best phone ever, but it also doesn't try to compete in the flagship phone category. This phone is Samsung's commendable attempt to bring features such as a high refresh rate display and an excellent rear camera to the Galaxy A series phones, which have been popular among users as being among the cheapest.

Samsung Galaxy A52 Price

The price of the Samsung Galaxy A52 is $ 420 in Europe and the United States for the 6 + 128 GB version, while the 8 + 128 GB version was priced at 5350 pounds, there is an 8 + 128 GB version of the phone available in foreign markets for 465 dollars, while the price of the highest version is 8 + 256 GB in Egypt for 5900 pounds.

The phone was officially unveiled on March 17, 2021, while it was launched on the market on March 26 of the same year. It is available so far in almost all markets and continues to achieve record sales in the middle class due to the high value it offers to the user for the price.

Design

Galaxy A52 is designed to be solid and durable but at the same time not like the flagship phones. For this reason, you may feel that the design of the phone is a bit cheap thanks to the plastic back.

Certainly the phone is not as excellent as the rest of Samsung’s higher-priced devices, but it is certainly durable enough and no user will hate this wonderful design, and it is not a small phone either because it comes with a 6.5-inch screen which is the standard for the ideal size for any smartphone screen.

The phone comes in four colors, two of them are particularly bright. The user has to choose from black, white, blue or violet. It should be noted that the phone is IP67 certified for dust and water.

There's nothing else striking about the phone's design, but most users will be happy to know that the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack, specifically on the bottom edge.

This is next to the USB-C port, and you'll find a volume button next to the power button on the right edge of the phone. There's also a small hole in the middle of the screen in order to house the front camera, so there's absolutely no annoying notch.

Display

Here we have a screen that meets all the standards that the user wants, FHD + resolution and excellent peak brightness. If you want a screen for watching videos and movies, then this phone is the ideal choice. Of course, the screen quality does not compare to the QHD quality of Samsung's flagship phones, but we are talking here about Phone for only $400.

One new feature that was not present in previous Galaxy A phones is the 120Hz refresh rate, a feature we usually see in flagship phones. This basically means that the image on your screen is refreshed faster than most other smartphones, giving you a smoother using experience when browsing social media or playing games.

This is something that may decide whether to buy or not, and once you get used to it, you will find it difficult to give up. We also found that the phone performs well without a noticeable difference in battery life.

There's also a fingerprint sensor under the screen, which we found generally works well. Sometimes it can take a touch longer than we hoped to be able to read a user's fingerprint, but that happens very rarely.

Performance

There's an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor powering the phone here. You will not get a high-quality experience with this processor for sure, but it is powerful enough to perform most daily tasks smoothly.

If you are a gamer, you may want to look into other options, but in the end the phone will give you an absolutely ok experience. The internal configuration of the phone is good, we have a RAM capacity of 6 or 8 GB with an internal storage space of 128 or 256 GB.

If you need additional storage space, there is support for installing an external memory card of up to 1 TB, and this is definitely a noticeable difference that distinguishes this phone from the leading Samsung phones that have recently abandoned support for this feature. This means that you can get more internal storage space on this phone than you can get on any phone in the series of Galaxy S21.

As for the software, we have a One UI 3.1 user interface based on the pre-installed Android 11 operating system and this means that the user is updated on the latest possible firmware so the user should not worry about updates since Samsung said that the user will get three years of updates in addition to to security updates as well.

Camera

The camera of the Samsung Galaxy A52 definitely looks good, which is confirmed by the photos we took in various scenarios and conditions. This phone can compete strongly Google Pixel 4athat is the best camera phone in this price segment.

It certainly won't give you the same feeling as if you were using a flagship phone camera, but we found the main camera to be excellent and we were able to take many excellent photos.

To recall the details of that great quad rear camera, we have a 64MP main camera with optical image stabilization and f/1.8 aperture, there is also a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro camera.

The main sensor is impressive as mentioned above, with it we were able to take pictures full of detail and saturated with colour, and lighting wasn't often an issue. There is no telephoto sensor unlike the Galaxy A72, so hybrid zoom is not reliable here. However, this is unlikely to be a major problem for most users.

We have a 32MP front camera located in the central hole in the screen which takes satisfactory selfies, it is also useful for video calls and therefore we do not expect the user to face any issues with the front camera of the phone.

Battery

The Galaxy A52 comes with a decent 4,500mAh battery and the company claims that the user will enjoy up to two days of battery life.

In practice, we found it barely lasted a day of full use, but if you don't use the phone much, it could last up to two days. The phone was able to last a full day in most of the usage scenarios we tested, and the phone often charged at night as it always had between 30% and 10% left before we charged it again.

If your use is heavy, there is support for 25W fast charging here that can charge half the battery in just half an hour. Unfortunately, these are all just dreams when the reality is that there is only a 15W charger included in the phone package, and there is no support for wireless charging either.

A52 Pros and Cons

  • Excellent design, you won't feel as if the phone is cheap even though the back is plastic and the back camera module design is great
  • The phone is water and dust resistant, which is a missing feature in most phones of this price category
  • A screen that the user could not covet to have a better one, in fact, Super AMOLED, Full HD + quality, supports a high refresh rate, has a high peak brightness and a high screen-to-body ratio, what more does the user want?
  • A protective layer on the screen to protect against scratches and bumps
  • The software is currently the latest
  • An acceptable processor with a good reputation in the middle class and the user will not feel any shortcomings in the usual daily tasks
  • The phone is available in many versions in order to suit all tastes and desires of users
  • A great rear camera, especially the main camera, which is one of the best in this price category
  • A front camera that takes selfies suitable for sharing and showing off on social networking sites
  • Stereo headphones, adding more positive impact to the visual and auditory experience
  • Ultra fast fingerprint sensor
  • Acceptable battery and will power the phone for at least a full day in most usage scenarios
  • The colors of the phone are numerous and comfortable for the nerves and will suit all artistic tastes
  • The processor is definitely not the best in that price category, and the phone is not a suitable option for gamers
  • If you want to save money, there are some phones that offer better value for money like Galaxy A42 5G

Galaxy A52 vs Galaxy A52 5G

Samsung also launched the 5G version of the A52, so what are the differences between it and the regular version and is it really worth buying? The 5G version comes with a slightly better processor, the Snapdragon 750G, and is priced at $500.

Does this price difference warrant buying the 5G version? In fact, this technology is not fully supported at the present time in almost all countries of the world, it is already present in some countries, but it is not optimal, the speeds have not yet reached the form that they should become, so at the present time we advise users to buy the regular version and save About $100.
