The iPhone 15 Pro Max is finally official, as Apple announced the latest and greatest iPhone at its “Wonderlust” event on September 12, 2023. The biggest and most advanced iPhone yet is an overall upgrade on many levels, especially when compared to the Pro Max phones Previous.
We have a new titanium design, the Lightning port has finally been ditched in favor of a much faster USB Type-C, we have a periscope telephoto camera that supports 5X optical zoom that is much better than before, and the world's first mobile chipset based on a 3nm manufacturing node. , iPhone 15 Pro Max is the true flagship phone that Apple should brag about amidst all the other competing flagship phones.
Here are the specifications and price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and everything you need to know about Apple's best phone in 2023.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max was announced on September 12 at the “Wonderlust” event. The iPhone 15 series was also announced, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 andApple Watch Series 9 جنبًا إلى جنب كذلك. تم طرح iPhone 15 Pro Max رسميًا في الأسواق يوم الجمعة 22 سبتمبر، مع بدء الطلبات المسبقة يوم الجمعة 15 سبتمبر.
This schedule is in keeping with Apple's tradition of unveiling its new iPhones at a dedicated hardware-centric keynote that typically takes place in early September each year, usually on the second Tuesday of the month. Then, the newly announced devices hit the market about ten days later, on a Friday, one of Apple's most important opening weekends.
The scary rise in iPhone prices did not happen, as many previous reports talked about. The price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $ 1,199 for the basic 256 GB version, which is the same price at which the iPhone 14 Pro Max arrived last year.
The 512GB version starts at $1,399, while you can buy the higher-end 1TB version of the phone for $1,599. It is worth noting that the 128 GB version of the device, which cost $1,099 last year, has been cancelled.
It is worth noting that rumors about price increases were always spreading before the official release of the new iPhone family, as Apple finally silenced all our rumors by revealing the same unchanged prices as the previous year. This has happened before, and apparently it happened in 2023 as well.
In terms of design, the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a new high-grade titanium body that enhances rigidity while keeping the weight low. In fact, the iPhone 15 Pro Max weighs as much as 221 grams, which is a staggering 19 grams difference from last year's iPhone 14 Pro Max.
However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max uses an aluminum inner frame bonded to a titanium outer frame. The aluminum inner frame helps reduce weight, aids in heat dissipation, and allows for easier repairs, like changing the back glass, for example.
On the front, the screen is protected by Apple's Ceramic Shield that keeps the screen from scratches and bumps.
iPhone 15 Pro Max features a new smooth, polished finish with contoured edges, which aren't as sharp as previous Pro Max models. The thinner bezels on the phone are also part of the amazing feature list of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max also gets rid of the distinctive mute switch in favor of a new customizable Action button. Apart from toggling between silent and ringing modes, you can also assign different functions and shortcuts to the new button. You can also toggle flashlight, memos, translation, magnifier, shortcuts, and much more. Not only will the button provide visual cues on the dynamic island, but it will also provide subtle touches.
When it comes to the colors of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the device is now available in four new colors:
The iPhone 15 Pro Max also comes with a USB Type-C port, capable of achieving USB 3.0 speeds of up to 10 Gb/s with a compatible USB cable. Data transfer speeds using the USB Type-C cable included in the box will likely be much lower.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max sticks with the same familiar 6.7-inch OLED display as before. And yes, it still has the Dynamic Island that we first saw on the Pro models from last year.
In 2023 we'll also enjoy ProMotion's 120Hz refresh rate, Always On (which used to be a bit of a turn on, but iOS settings now allow us to tone it down), and super-brightness capabilities for watching HDR video in any conditions.
There's no upgrade to peak brightness this year, but that's okay – we still got a peak brightness of 2,000 nits which is sufficient in high ambient light scenarios, which is more than you'd normally need.
Dynamic Island has a lot of uses with iOS 17, so it's even more integrated in 2023 and there's still plenty of room for further improvements and additions.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has the familiar triple camera with LiDAR, and now uses its inner chamber to house a new 5x zoom lens (120mm equivalent).
Of course, this 48MP sensor was introduced with the two iPhone 14 Pro models last year and was a jump from the 12MP sensor we were used to all those years ago. But this year, Apple has improved the way it processes the data that passes through that sensor. Instead of taking 12MP photos by default, we will now get 24MP photos for more detail without sacrificing any detail thanks to the upgraded Photonic Engine and HDR algorithms.
The telephoto lens now has a quad prism design, allowing for 5x optical zoom – an upgrade over last year's 3x resolution. When you zoom digitally, the iPhone 15 Pro Max can reach up to 25x, which is up from 15x for the previous model.
What about zoom levels between 1x and 5x? Especially for portraits? Well, Apple is pretty confident that it can harness the power of the 48MP sensor to give us 2x “lossless” zoom – at least good enough for that class of photos.
Our experience with the iPhone 14 Pro Max shows us that this is indeed the case. But we'll have to test the iPhone 15 Pro Max extensively, especially since Apple has touted its new and improved Portrait mode algorithms for background detection.
Pro mode will now be able to save 48MP raw images in HEIF format, which should be even more storage-hungry. Thanks to the new USB 3 port, videographers will be able to record 4K 60fps video in ProRes directly to an external storage device for easy transfer of work files.
Another year, another new chip for iPhones – this time called the Apple A17 Pro which looks to be a respectable leap – with a 20% faster GPU that now delivers 10% improved ray tracing in the CPU's performance cores.
The Apple A17 Pro is the world's first 3nm smartphone chipset. In short, nanometers here refer to the size of the transistor. Smaller transistors mean you have more space on the chip. In addition, the paths between them are much shorter. So, you get more transistors that can do more work, but in return will transmit information to each other using less power. That's why we say this chip will be more energy efficient.
Apple doesn't talk about RAM on its phones. Supposedly, we're now getting 8GB of RAM – a small upgrade compared to the 6GB in the iPhone 14 Pro. But we'll have to wait for the teardowns to reveal the truth. iOS is very efficient and the company's chips are very powerful, which is why Apple rarely constantly increases RAM. In 2023, 8GB isn't a crazy number, but it's on par with what you'll get on competing flagship Android phones.
As for storage, the basic 128GB version is gone, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at 256GB, then goes up to 512GB and 1TB. Don't be too hasty to celebrate, Apple hasn't upgraded the bottom tier, they've removed it. This means the iPhone 15 Pro Max now starts at $1,199 for 256GB — the $1,099 option has expired. We'll also get Wi-Fi 6E on the Pro models, for the fastest Wi-Fi protocols.
Of course, Apple doesn't like to talk about small details like “battery capacity.” We'll have to wait for the teardown to see what's inside this titanium case. But, given the design information of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it should have a battery the same size as or slightly higher than the one in the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The battery capacity is rumored to be 4,422 mAh, which doesn't seem huge compared to other large premium phones out there at the moment. However, with iOS improvements, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was already a marathon runner when it came to battery life. We'd expect nothing less from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Of course, we may experience some fluctuations due to the new processor – the power efficiency may give us better battery endurance, but on the other hand, if the chip is noticeably more powerful than before, the power consumption and efficiency may reach a better level.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max may have gotten USB Type-C but Apple is in no rush to add some kind of crazy fast charging. We get the same 20W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging using the MagSafe charger.
The iPhone 15 series also supports the new Qi2 wireless charging standard, with the company preparing to launch the first charger in that category by the end of 2023.
Ultimately, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a routine phone that comes part of Apple's annual lineup upgrade cycle. It's not huge if you're coming from the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it will be a good option if you're using the iPhone 13 Pro Max (battery, performance, camera), and it will be a jump for people coming from the iPhone 12 Pro Max (refresh rate, camera, battery life, performance) . The iPhones are as powerful as expected and we don't expect many surprises from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, both pleasant and unpleasant.
