August seems to be the month of foldable phones. In just 3 days, three foldable smartphones were revealed in one go: Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 – Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 – Motorola Moto Razr 2022.
And while there's a separate battle raging between the two of Motorola Moto Razr 2022 andFlip 4A new contender for the best foldable phone challenge has emerged: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.
Design and display
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is truly a technological masterpiece. It takes the foldable form factor to the next level. The new Xiaomi phone is almost 30% thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The hinge mechanism has also been improved and no screen wrinkle can be detected.
The main display of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is a stunning 8.02-inch OLED panel, with a resolution of 1914 x 2160 pixels, and an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz. The external display is just as great - it's 6.56 inches and has a more natural aspect ratio (21:9) than the external display of the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Mix Fold weighs around 262 grams, which is in line with most other foldable phones with similar dimensions. The Xiaomi smartphone comes in two elegant colors, gold and black.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 specifications
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, which is currently the most powerful chipset from Qualcomm. Due to recent improvements in terms of energy savings combined with the 4,500mAh battery powering it, the Mix Fold 2 should be able to last a full day of use normally.
However, the Mix Fold 2's battery charging is seamless, as the smartphone supports 67W wired fast charging. The foldable phone has a RAM of 12 GB, and it comes with an internal storage capacity of 256 GB up to 1 TB, which is definitely a good internal configuration.
The camera module is one of the main focal aspects of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. The phone comes with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera from Leica. If that's not enough, you also get a 13MP ultra-wide lens and an 8MP telephoto camera that supports optical zoom up to 2x. So that you don't feel any detraction in your photography experience, you also have a 20MP front camera.
As for the software, the phone runs on the Android 12 operating system, which is based on the MIUI Fold 13 user interface, which is dedicated to the foldable phone category.
Price and availability in the markets
The Fold 2 price starts at $1340 for the standard 12 + 256 GB version, while the higher version 12 + 1 TB is priced at $1,780. The pre-order phase has opened today, while the phone will officially start selling in the Chinese market on August 16.
There is no update at that time on whether Xiaomi intends to launch the phone in the global markets or not, but it is really worth launching it because it is a good phone and it can compete with the Z Fold 4 fiercely.
