After months of leaks and rumours, Sony PlayStation came out to reveal the new Slim versions of the PS5 platform, which will be available in the 2023 holiday season to replace the versions currently on the market. What new do these new versions offer?
There are some improvements that the new versions offer over previous versions, and perhaps the most important of them is that they now come with an SSD with a storage capacity of 1 TB instead of 825 GB, which used to amount to about 667 GB after the system takes what space it needs. This means that you will now be able to add some new games without having to free up space.
As for other improvements, it has been confirmed that the device now comes in a 30% smaller size and a 18-24% lighter weight, depending on the version you will purchase, whether it is PS5 Slim or PS5 Digital Slim. These new copies, as I mentioned, will replace the old ones currently on the market, but the most important question is, what about the price?
Sony has confirmed that the new regular PS5 version will be available at a price of $500 like the old version, but it has now raised the price of the digital version to $450 instead of $400. Let's say you purchased the digital version but for some reason decided you wanted to buy discs, do you now have to buy the regular version again? The answer is no, as you can install and remove a brand new drive at any time, but of course it is sold separately for $80.
Perhaps what is ironic in this advertisement is PlayStation’s assertion that every new device comes with a base on which you can place the device horizontally, but what if you want to park the device vertically? Well here you have to buy a brand new base that is being sold for only $30!!!
In general, the new copies of PlayStation 5 will be available starting next November, and you can expect that they will become the main ones in the markets at the beginning of 2024, and the old copies will be completely removed as the company will gradually stop producing them.
