We already have a plethora of information and rumors related to the iPhone 14 even though it hasn't been long since the iPhone 13 series was revealed in mid-September 2021.
But while the new iPhone 13 series phones are only relatively limited upgrades compared to the previous phones, the iPhone 14 is likely to come with a major breakthrough in terms of changes.
In fact, tech blogger Jon Prosser, who has a decent record of leaks, indicated that Apple will make major changes to the design of its phones in 2022.
So far, most expectations indicate that we will finally see the end of the notch, and we will see the return of Touch ID again, a new processor with a precision of 4 nm and a possible design without any port in one of the phones. In addition, there will be no mini version anymore and that phone will be left out forever and will be replaced by a new phone that will be called iPhone 14 Max.
With that in mind, here's everything we know so far about the iPhone 14 and what we'd like to see from Apple's 2022 flagship. Find out about the launch date, specs, and more.
iPhone 14 Specs
So far, we've managed to get some information about when the iPhone 14 will hit the market, as well as possible specifications.
The phone that will arrive in 2022 is expected to come with an A-class processor from Apple. Most likely it will be called the A16 Bionic, which is expected to support a significant boost in both processor and graphics performance compared to the A15 Bionic chipset responsible for powering the 2021 phones.
The next processor will come with a manufacturing accuracy of up to 4 nanometers only, and TSMC will be responsible for this. This processor will be better in terms of efficiency and power than the A15, which comes with a 5 nanometer manufacturing accuracy.
The iPhone 14 is also expected to come with a 5G modem that will be made by Apple, following the acquisition of Intel's modem design division. This should give Apple more control over 5G technology and its impact on battery life.
In terms of the internal configuration, we will see the same storage options as the current phones, which start from 128 GB and go up to 1 TB only on the Pro models. However, there is a recent rumor that the iPhone 14 may come with a version with a huge internal storage capacity of up to 2TB.
Since no Samsung phone comes with that much storage, which was generous in that aspect before, in 2022 we might see an iPhone with the largest internal storage of any smartphone yet.
It makes sense that with Pro-Res technology, which certainly takes up a fair amount of internal storage, increasing the storage capacity of the Pro Editions would make perfect sense. But we still take that rumor a little seriously.
When does it come down! Here's the launch date of iPhone 14
When will the iPhone 14 come out, and what is the launch date: This is the question that preoccupies the minds of many about the Apple phones that we wait every year.
We haven't heard any hints or rumors regarding a possible iPhone 14 release date. But going back to all the previous Apple conferences, we expect the iPhone 14 to be officially unveiled in mid-September 2022.
The four series phones will be launched simultaneously, as we saw in the 2021 series, after all manufacturers adapted to the conditions of the current Corona epidemic and succeeded in meeting their commitments to pre-set production schedules.
What about the mini version?
Despite the weak sales of the iPhone 12 Mini, Apple was not disappointed and revealed the new version of the phone and the iPhone 13 mini. But the company may not continue to do so again, as the company is said to be changing members of the iPhone 14 series.
There may be an iPhone 14 Plus or a larger Max version along with the standard version. So there will be two regular-size phones and two other models in the series with a larger screen size.
Many rumors have also indicated that the iPhone 14 Max will be an alternative to the mini version, as it will come with a screen size of only 6.7 inches without any other features, which in return means a cheaper price. With the popularity of larger phones, a large iPhone at a price can be the perfect gift for iPhone lovers.
iPhone 14 price
For information about the iPhone 14 price, it is also difficult to expect a specific price range. But we believe that the iPhone 14 will come at the same price as the iPhone 13, but there is a part that the prices of the series phones start at $ 800 for the mini version, there may not be an iPhone 14 mini at all and therefore the standard version will be the first phone in the series and therefore we expect it to come Priced at $900.
Phone design
The iPhone 14 will come with a design very similar to the iPhone 4, as it will maintain the same flat edges. But on these edges there will be a mute button and two circular buttons for volume control, just like the iPhone 4.
The phone is supposed to come with titanium sides, which could make it stronger and more durable than all previous Apple phones, while the back will retain a glass design but with a satin finish. Speaking of the rest of the design, there are rumors that the 2022 Apple phones will come without any ports, but Jon Prosser said the iPhone 14 will stick with the Lightning ports.
The return of Touch ID is expected to be one of the most important additions that we will see in the upcoming phone. Instead of integrating the fingerprint sensor into the power button, it's expected to be located under the screen, much like the fingerprint sensors on premium Android phones.
At a time when people are wearing medical masks in order to protect against the dangers of the Corona virus, Face ID can unfortunately have difficulty recognizing users, so having any form of fingerprint sensor would solve this problem.
A source from Bloomberg also claimed that the upcoming Apple phone will come with a comprehensive architecture and will be completely different from the iPhone 13. The same source added that Apple engineers were and are still working to complete those big changes, and as a result, the iPhone 14 will come with a massive boom. The biggest changes to the phone will be getting rid of the annoying notch, which we've seen on all of the company's phones since the iPhone X.
Display
We expect the screen changes to definitely affect all series phones, as the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are said to come with a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max are slated to come with a 6.7-inch screen. So no more small phones that come with a 5.4 inch display.
Since the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro max support 120Hz refresh rate, it would be great to see all the screens of the series phones support the same technology. However, The Elec said that at least one model in the series will come with an LTPS display, which means we'll see a standard 60Hz refresh rate in 2022.
The presence of the Always-On Display feature may seem logical, since it has already been rumored that this feature will be present in the iPhone 2021, but it did not eventually succeed in making its way successfully.
But the most important change in iPhone 14 will be getting rid of the notch. Pictures published by Prosser at the beginning of September state that the leaks are indeed true and that the pesky notch will be replaced with a small hole only to house the front camera. It makes sense that these leaks are true, given that a lot of Android phones use the same punch-hole design language.
But where will the components of the Face ID sensor go? There are rumors that Apple will put that sensor under the screen, but a reliable source said that's not confirmed yet, but in the end it is "easier than the camera under the screen." There is some rumors that if Apple decides to include the Face ID sensor under the screen, that feature will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro models only.
iPhone 14 camera
We haven't heard much about the iPhone 14 camera rumors yet, but there are some interesting reports, specifically from Ming-Chi Kuo, who indicated that there will be a 48-megapixel main camera but only in the Pro version, which will definitely be a big jump compared to the main camera accurately 12 megapixels that are present in all phones of the iPhone 13 series.
Optical zoom capabilities will also get some improvement, an aspect that we must admit that Apple does not do well in comparison to other competing phones, in fact, it would be a pleasant surprise if Apple followed in the footsteps of the Galaxy S21 Ultra by using a telephoto periscope sensor that supports true optical zoom up to 10x.
What we hope to see in iPhone 2022
- A real design breakthrough: Jon Prosser has leaked some photos of the iPhone 14 that make it a rather attractive phone. But it's not a huge leap in terms of design aesthetics. Sure, Apple makes some of the most beautiful phones for sure, but we'd like to see if they can evolve the design language and take it to a higher level; We may see a foldable phone in the next few years similar to Samsung, no one knows!
- No Notch Again: The iPhone 14 could come with a completely notch-free screen, and we hope that pays off. Rumors say this could be replaced by a small hole, but we'd also like to see an under-display camera but provided it doesn't affect shooting with the front camera or Face ID performance.
- Touch ID: It seems that all indications are that Apple will include Touch ID in all iPhone 14 phones, even if it does not happen via the presence of a fingerprint sensor under the screen. Maybe the company will install that sensor on the power button like the iPad Air.
