Xiaomi 12 series officially announced in China

Today, Xiaomi launched its new flagship phone series in China, which is Xiaomi Mi 12, that comes with major upgrades and powerful features compared to the previous lineup of phones. Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro both come with decent cameras and fast charging capabilities, but that's only part of the real capabilities of the two phones.

In terms of aesthetics, there are several design changes that are welcome in the new phone lineup. Both phones feature front cameras located inside the central hole in the screen, which is very similar to the front camera in Xiaomi Mi 11T.

We have the rear camera unit, which is characterized by a beautiful and simple design in the form of a rectangle, all of this comes with an aesthetic touch and a wonderful texture for the back panel, which significantly increases the luxury and sophistication of the phone and makes it more valuable than Mi 11.

Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro and the standard version shares a lot of specifications, most notably the processor. Both phones run on the recently unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset, which provides significantly stronger performance than the Snapdragon 888 processor we saw in the previous series of phones.

Xiaomi 12 Specs

According to Xiaomi, the regular version is a small, compact phone, which is probably the correct term to describe the phone as it is only 69.9 mm wide, making it less than iPhone 13 andSamsung Galaxy S21. The phone weighs only 180 grams which makes it a light phone as well.

The phone also packs a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, 12-bit color support, 120Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision. There is a layer of protection on the screen as well as Gorilla Glass Victus.

The phone also features a cooling pad whose primary task is to keep any potential overheating from the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 processor. The phone draws its energy with a 4500 mAh battery that supports 67 watts fast charging and 50 watts wireless charging, and there is also 10 watts reverse charging.

In terms of photographic capabilities, the phone comes with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera with OIS. We have a 13MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro sensor, and a 32MP front camera.

Xiaomi 12 Pro Specs

Xiaomi has yet to unveil the Ultra model, so the Pro version is the actual best phone in the series right now. The phone comes with a 6.73-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 1500 nits and we have the same layer of protection as the screen of the regular version.

The phone packs a 4600mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging.

We have three 50MP rear sensors which are a wide lens and a telephoto sensor that supports 2x optical zoom and the last is an ultra-wide lens and we have the same front camera as the smaller phone.

The rest of the specs include Android 12 operating system, MIUI 13 user interface, dual stereo speakers, and IP68 protection against water and dust.

Prices

The Xiaomi 12 series is currently exclusive to the Chinese market only, but we expect that the company will launch at least one phone in the global markets.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro has not managed to secure its place in any market outside of China, so we expect Xiaomi to follow the same plan with this year's release.

However, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is available in China at $738 for the 8/128GB model, $785 for the 8/256GB option, and $848 for the 12/256GB version.

The price of the Xiaomi Phone 12 starts at $ 581 for the 8/128 GB model and $ 628 for the 8/256 GB option. The price jumps to $691 for the 12/256GB version.

Both phones are available in only four colors: green, violet, blue and black. The pre-order phase begins on December 30 and the phones will be officially launched early next year.
