Samsung's 2024 flagship, the Galaxy S24 Plus, is now available, and it's packed with cutting-edge features and improvements. Whether you're a photography enthusiast, a power user, or just looking for the best smartphone experience, the S24 Plus is definitely worth considering.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus falls between the standard S24 and the premium S24 Ultra, aiming to offer a balance between features and price. But in a market full of capable flagship devices, does the S24 Plus stand out? Here is a look at the specifications and price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, in addition to a comprehensive look at everything related to the phone and whether it is actually worth buying or not, which is what we arrived at after testing the phone for a period of time exceeding a week.
The company launched the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus (alongside the Galaxy S24 andGalaxy S24 Ultra) on January 17, 2024. It was made available for pre-order on the same day and shipped as of January 25.
The 256 GB version was priced for $1,000, while the price of the higher version, 512 GB, was $1,120. You can learn more about the process of ordering and purchasing the phone here.
Note that these are the official prices for the US market, and it will certainly differ and be higher than that in different markets due to many factors such as: customs, taxes, greed of merchants, etc., so we expect the price of the phone to reach $1000, perhaps in some countries.
The S24 Plus doesn't stray too far from Samsung's established design language. The glass and metal sandwich construction looks familiarly luxurious, and the phone is available in a range of attractive colors such as green, purple and a host of other distinctive colors. The bezels are slightly thinner than those on the 2023 phone, and the screen now very subtly curves towards the edges, providing a more immersive viewing experience.
The S24 Plus features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with WQHD+ resolution. It's bright, sharp, and the colors are vibrant and impactful. An adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz supports smooth scrolling and animation, making everything from web browsing to gaming a pleasure. Whether you're watching HDR content or editing photos, the S24 Plus's display is a pleasure to look at, and it's protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for better protection against scratches and bumps.
The S24 Plus is powered by the latest chip from Qualcomm, which is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, for the version in Canada and the United States, while the global version comes supported by a custom chip from Samsung, which is the Exynos 2400.
Regarding the internal configuration, the phone comes supported by a RAM capacity of 12 GB, in addition to an internal storage capacity of 256 or 512 GB. This combination makes the phone an absolute powerhouse, capable of handling even the most demanding tasks with ease. We didn't experience any lag or stuttering, even while multitasking between multiple apps and playing graphically demanding games.
The S24 Plus features a triple rear camera module, consisting of a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. While the camera setup is almost identical to the S23 Plus, Samsung has made some improvements to the software that will positively impact the photography experience. Images are generally sharper and more detailed, with better color accuracy and dynamic range. Performance in low-light conditions has also seen a noticeable improvement, thanks to improved night mode algorithms.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has a 4,900 mAh battery, which is a slight increase from the S23 Plus' 4,700 mAh battery. This translates into excellent battery life. We easily cruised through a full day of moderate use with plenty of battery power available at the end of the day in the evening. Even heavy users should be able to get a full day of use on a single charge.
The phone also comes with support for 45-watt fast charging, as well as support for 15-watt wireless charging and support for 4.5-watt military charging. Don't forget that the phone comes without a charger included and that you will have to purchase a brick separately in order to enjoy those fast charging capabilities.
One of the key features of the S24 Plus is its focus on artificial intelligence. Samsung has provided a large number of features powered by artificial intelligence technology in the phone, with the aim of making your life easier and more productive. This includes features like Live Translate, which can translate conversations in real time, Notes Assistant, which helps you summarize and organize your notes, and Chat Assistant, which can suggest contextually relevant responses to your messages. While some of these features are weird, others like Live Translate can be really useful in certain scenarios.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is a good flagship phone that packs a punch across the board. The phone has a beautiful display, a powerful processor, excellent cameras, and impressive battery life, as well as AI features, although not all of them are groundbreaking. However, in such a competitive market, the S24 Plus may not fare well against a lot of competitors. Design changes are scarce, and camera improvements are limited.
If you're looking for the best Android phone on the market, the S24 Ultra might be a better choice. But if you're looking for a solid flagship experience at a slightly more affordable price, the S24 Plus is still a compelling option. Ultimately, the decision comes down to your priorities and budget.
