Finally, after many delays and long waits, Apple announced the next generation of its flagship iPhone series: iPhone 12 at the Hi, Speed event where the company convenes at its headquarters in California to reveal its most awaited line of phones. In a precedent speaking for the first time, the iPhone 12 series includes four phones: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11: what are the new features?
- iPhone 12 has an OLED display, instead of an IPS LCD
- iPhone 12 has the same processor as the A14 found in iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 has flat sides, which are those found in the new iPad Air and iPad Pro
- iPhone 12 comes with a slightly upgraded rear camera, a wider aperture and improved software processing
- iPhone 12 comes with support for the redesigned MagSafe charger. The phone is compatible with magnetic chargers and accessories
iPhone 12 screen and design
iPhone 12 design is a mixture of modernity and adherence to ancient origins. Take a look from the front and you'll see that it looks like iPhone XS and all subsequent phones that were launched after him. If you look at the phone from the side, you will see beautiful flat sides that will remind you of the classic look of iPhone 5.
iPhone 12 body is made of aluminum, as usual, as well as a glass back in order to support wireless charging. Here we have the glass again, since the stainless steel is only exclusive to my Pro.
iPhone 12 comes in five different colors, black, red, gray, green, and blue.
The back has not got major upgrades, in fact, we still get a dual rear camera, there is no lens after photography, if you want three cameras, you can turn to iPhone 12 Pro.
Overall, iPhone 12 is thinner, lighter and slightly smaller than iPhone 11.
The big improvement was in the display. No, no, I'm not talking about 120Hz here. Unfortunately, this feature didn't arrive on the iPhone 12. But, at least, the screen is now OLED. Deep blacks, vibrant colors, sharper animations and thinner frames. It also has the same Super Retina XDR feature in the higher versions, plus it supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG.
iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch display with a resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. The pixel density is 457 pixels per inch, which is sharper than the 324 pixels per inch of the previous phone.
iPhone 12 Camera
iPhone 12 does not come with a triple camera, but it certainly still has a flagship camera. So, we have a 12MP ultra-wide angle camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. But the aperture is noticeably larger - F/1.6 compared to the F/1.8 in iPhone 11. This means that the sensor will get more light entering, making it easier to get stable shots and improving the shooting experience in low-light conditions.
Apple has also upgraded the Deep Fusion processing system to get better results, the night mode has been improved as well, and Smart HDR has been updated to Smart HDR 3. This last feature contributes to improving the detail in terms of the surrounding landscape and the clothes as well.
Night mode now works with all iPhone 12 rear and front cameras as well.
And speaking of the selfie camera, well, we have a 12MP sensor again, it looks like that sensor is the same as the iPhone 11, so that's okay.
What about the hardware?
All four iPhone 12 series phones are powered by the Apple A14 processor. It's Apple's breakthrough new processor based on a 5nm manufacturing resolution. This means more production capacity, and less energy consumption. Apple's processors have always been very powerful and we expect the iPhone 12's performance will not disappoint us.
In terms of storage options, the basic version comes with 64GB, which is still good enough for the average user. If you are one of the people who spend a lot of time on the phone, you can still get 64GB, but you will need to do your somewhat lower usage.
There are two other versions that come with 128GB and 256GB max.
